ACGIM President
ACGIM is celebrating its 9th year. In this short time, we have successfully established ourselves as an important voice in academic internal medicine and a valued source for networking and support for 155 committed Chiefs and Leaders in Academic General Internal Medicine. In the past 9 years, ACGIM has forged a strong synergistic strategic partnership with SGIM, focused around enhancing the viability of our GIM divisions. Our activities include:
- Active Listserve providing timely feedback on key issues
- Winter Summit addressing global issues important to GIM chiefs and leaders
- Hess Management Institute in the spring associated with the SGIM meeting
- Annual Networking Dinner at the Hess Management Institute
- Co-sponsorship of the Academic Hospitalist Academy
- Programs for mentoring new Division Chiefs
- Resources for Chiefs and leaders including the Quality Portfolio
- Quarterly Leadership Forum newsletter
- Institutions’ subsidization of GIM residents’ clinics
- Policies surrounding part-time faculty
- Productivity models
- Promotion policies and support for Clinician Educators and Academic Hospitalists
- Raising funds for program development
This year, we will modernize our communications including upgrading our website, joining social networking sites, enhancing the listserv and improving our print media. We will also begin the strategic planning process for the next 10 years of ACGIM. We will continue our strong partnership with SGIM including supporting the upcoming capital campaign for new headquarters. We also look forward to strengthening our relationships with AAIM, SHM and ASP. Finally, we will work with SGIM to successfully launch the Quality Portfolio targeting Academic Hospitalists.
While ACGIM has been quite successful in attracting members in academic medical centers, we will be placing special emphasis on recruiting chiefs in larger community-based teaching hospitals and VA hospitals over the coming year. Increasing our representation within GIM will be particularly important in expanding our spheres of influence within other organizations, such as the AAIM and ACP. We will be contacting many of you to help in recruiting chiefs of divisions in your neighborhood who have not yet found ACGIM.
We welcome the participation of all members in ACGIMs activities as participants and volunteer leaders. Please let us know how ACGIM can better meet your needs. The more involved you become, the more effective we will become as a group.
I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new members across the year at the Summit and Hess Management Institute. I also look forward to your feedback on our programs, activities and direction.
Regards,
